MILESTONES & ACHIEVEMENTS:

Tallur Family Trust runs Narayana Special School for special children. This School, started in 2008, is recognized by Govt of Karnataka and registered under People with Disabilities Act 1995.

When began to function the student strength at Narayana Special School was just 4 and currently the school accommodates 32 students and operates from a moderately owned space of 3300 sqft and is well equipped with classrooms, educational and sports materials and basic amenities.

Narayana Special School provides its special children with free day care, counselling, tutoring and mentoring. Children from age group 7 to 27 undergo training at the Narayana Special School. The students are divided into two groups- seniors and juniors. The juniors are trained to perform daily chores and also are trained in functional academics. The senior group is trained in developing life skills such as craft, tailoring, gardening etc. and daily chores, along with functional academics. Additional academic activities such as yoga, exercises, sports, music, dance, etc. are also a part of the Narayana Special School’s pedagogy. 

Transport facility to and from the center is provided to all the students. All the above mentioned services are provided at free of cost. Uniform for the students and other academic materials are also provided by the trust free of cost. 

The school is run jointly by the district administration and the peers, along with the children of the school. An administrator, four qualified teachers, two trainee teachers, one maid, one part-time vocational training teacher and one driver are currently working in this center.

Students of the Narayana Special School have participated and achieved remarkably in the State and National level competitions for special schools. Some of the students have shown remarkable talent in making handicraft materials, Sari Border works, making envelops, paper bags, etc. which has caught the imagination of people across the state. The school has assisted the children to find venues to showcase their artistic abilities and also has provided venues regularly.

Through the Narayana Special School, the Trust has also helped many normal needy children with educational scholarships and continues to do so. The Trust has also published a Mathematics Text book for special children, which is unique and a maiden attempt in Kannada language and is being used by most of the special schools in Karnataka now.

Besides providing training for children, the Narayana Special School has a group of trained & experienced employees who provide guidelines and instructions to the parents for the future development of these children.

The Narayana Special School conducts seminars and classes by experienced professionals for the students and parents for their future development. Through this the School and Trust have tried to realize their vision of building the community at large to enable healthy living for all individuals. As a part of the same vision the Trust also sponsors cultural programmes in the community including the plays of Neenasam, a drama troupe that travels across Karnataka.

Apart from providing many sports and cultural event participation opportunities in the district and state level, trust has also helped many normal needy children with educational scholarships.
